Amazon Is Making Returned Inventory Sellable Again. What Multi-Marketplace Sellers Should Know
Amazon Is Changing How FBA Returns Are Resold
Amazon is giving FBA sellers more ways to recover value from customer return, without necessarily having those products shipped back to them.
Beginning October 21, 2026, Amazon says it will expand and rename two existing FBA programs:
- FBA Refurbishment becomes Restore to New. Amazon will attempt to restore eligible returned products so they can go back into inventory as New.
- FBA Grade and Resell becomes Sell as Used. Amazon can inspect and grade eligible returns, then make them available for resale in Used condition.
Sellers can enroll in either or both programs.
According to Amazon's seller communication, sellers enrolled in Restore to New have seen an average of more than 70% net recovery on eligible returned items. Successful restoration carries a processing fee, which Amazon says will range from $1.50 to $4.10 per unit.
What This Means for Resellers
The big benefit for FBA sellers is convenience. An eligible return may be restored or resold without the seller physically handling and relisting the product.
For multichannel sellers, it's also a reminder that every marketplace handles inventory, fulfillment, returns, and resale differently. Understanding those differences can help you make better decisions about what to sell — and where to sell it.
