Walmart selling fees
How much does Walmart take in 2026?
Walmart takes a referral fee of 6% to 15% of each sale, 15% in most categories, and nothing else unless you choose extra services. There is no monthly subscription, no setup fee and no listing fee. The referral fee is only charged when an order completes, and it is worked out on the total sales price: item price plus any shipping you charge, excluding sales tax.
| Fee | Amount | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Account, listing, monthly | $0 | Never charged |
| Referral fee | 6%–15% (most 15%) | Every sale, on item + shipping |
| WFS fulfillment | From $3.45 per unit | Only if Walmart ships for you |
| WFS storage | From $0.75 per cu ft / month | Only for stock in WFS |
| Sponsored Products | Cost per click you set | Optional advertising |
| Sales tax | Collected by Walmart | Not part of the fee base |
That makes Walmart one of the simpler fee structures for a large marketplace: one percentage, set by the category you choose at item setup. The details that catch sellers out are the categories whose rate changes with the price, and the fulfillment costs when you let Walmart ship.
Walmart referral fees by category
Most categories pay a flat rate. A handful change rate at a price threshold, and they do it in two different ways, which the calculator handles for you.
| Category | Referral fee |
|---|---|
| Apparel & Accessories | 5% up to $15 · 10% up to $20 · 15% above (whole sale) |
| Baby; Beauty, Health & Personal Care | 8% up to $10 · 15% above (whole sale) |
| Grocery | 8% up to $15 · 15% above (whole sale) |
| Outdoor Power Tools | 15% up to $500 · 8% above (whole sale) |
| Jewelry & Precious Metals | 20% of the first $250 · 5% of the rest |
| Watches | 15% of the first $1,500 · 3% of the rest |
| Furniture (indoor & outdoor) | 15% of the first $200 · 10% of the rest |
| Electronics Accessories | 15% of the first $100 · 8% of the rest |
| Appliances – Compact | 12% of the first $300 · 8% of the rest |
| Personal Computers | 6% |
| Consumer Electronics, Camera & Photo, Video Game Consoles, Major Appliances | 8% |
| Collectibles (approved sellers), binoculars & scopes | 8% |
| Plumbing & HVAC, Tires & Wheels | 10% |
| Automotive, Base Power Tools, Industrial, Musical Instruments, Printer Cartridges | 12% |
| Home & Garden, Toys, Pet, Books, Shoes & Bags, Sports, Tools, Office and everything else | 15% |
Whole-sale thresholds create price cliffs
In apparel, baby, beauty, grocery and outdoor power tools, the total sales price picks one rate for the whole order. A $20.00 shirt pays 10%, or $2.00, and leaves you $18.00. At $20.01 the entire sale moves to 15%: the fee jumps to $3.00 and you keep $17.01. If your price sits just above one of these lines, dropping it a few cents can pay you more.
Portion thresholds only lower the rate on the top slice
Jewelry, watches, furniture, electronics accessories and compact appliances work like tax brackets. A $400 ring pays 20% on the first $250 ($50.00) and 5% on the remaining $150 ($7.50), so $57.50 in total, an effective 14.4%. Raising the price never lowers your payout in these categories.
How to calculate Walmart fees
The calculator above does all of this live, but the logic is short:
- Add the item price and any shipping you charge the buyer: that is the total sales price Walmart charges its fee on.
- Look up the referral rate for your category and apply it, watching for categories that change rate at a price threshold.
- If you use Walmart Fulfillment Services, add the WFS fee for the shipping weight plus any surcharges, and any storage.
- Subtract the referral fee, WFS fees or your shipping label, and any ad spend from the total to get your payout.
- Subtract what you paid for the item and other costs to get your profit.
For a flat-rate category: referral fee = rate × (item price + shipping charged). Then payout = item price + shipping charged − referral fee − WFS fees or label − ads and profit = payout − item cost − other costs.
The "Price for a target profit" tab runs this backwards. Because some categories jump to a higher rate above a threshold, it checks prices on both sides of every line and returns the lowest price that reaches your target.

Cheap items lose most of their price to fixed costs
The lip balm keeps only 36% of its price before you pay for the product. Multipacks priced at $10 or more avoid the under-$10 WFS surcharge and spread one fulfillment fee across several units.
Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) fees
With WFS you send stock to Walmart's fulfillment centers and Walmart picks, packs, ships and handles customer service and returns. Orders ship free to the buyer, so the referral fee is charged on the item price alone, and you pay a per-unit fulfillment fee instead of buying labels.
| Shipping weight | Fee per unit |
|---|---|
| 1 lb or less | $3.45 |
| 2 lb | $4.95 |
| 3 lb | $5.45 |
| 4 to 20 lb | $5.75 + $0.40 per lb above 4 lb |
| 21 to 30 lb | $15.55 + $0.40 per lb above 21 lb |
| 31 to 50 lb | $14.55 + $0.40 per lb above 31 lb |
| 51 lb and over | $17.55 + $0.40 per lb above 51 lb |
| Big & Bulky | $155 + $0.80 per lb above 90 lb |
Shipping weight and surcharges
WFS bills on shipping weight: the higher of the unit weight and the dimensional weight (length × width × height in inches ÷ 139), plus 0.25 lb for packaging, rounded up to the next pound. A 2 lb item in a 12 × 10 × 8 inch box has a dimensional weight of 6.9 lb, so it is billed at 8 lb, or $7.35. On top of the base fee, Walmart adds:
- $1.00 for items with a retail price under $10.
- $0.50 for apparel and $0.50 for hazardous materials such as aerosols and batteries.
- $3 for oversize items (longest side over 48 in, median side over 30 in, or length + girth over 105 in) and $20 for large oversize (longest side over 96 in or length + girth over 130 in).
Storage, returns and other WFS charges
Storage is $0.75 per cubic foot per month for most of the year. During the October to December peak, units stored longer than 30 days pay $2.25. Aged inventory pays $2.25 once it has been in storage for more than a year and $7.50 after 450 days. Returns caused by the seller carry a return processing fee that starts at $4.70 per unit; returns caused by Walmart cost you nothing. Inbound freight to the fulfillment center is yours to pay, and units that arrive without the right label or poly bag are charged a prep fee.
Should you use WFS or ship it yourself?
Shipping yourself costs a label per order, and any shipping you charge the buyer is added to the referral fee base. WFS replaces the label with a fixed fee and adds storage, but WFS listings get the Walmart fulfillment badge, two-day delivery promises and free shipping for the buyer, which usually helps conversion and winning the buy box.
A useful rule of thumb: compare the WFS fee for your shipping weight with what a label costs you today. Light, fast-moving items often come out cheaper through WFS. Bulky, slow or one-of-a-kind items usually make more money shipped by you, because storage keeps charging until the unit sells. Switch the calculator between the two modes to see the difference for your item.
Walmart fees vs eBay, Amazon, Mercari and other marketplaces
Walmart's 15% is in the same range as Amazon and above resale apps like Mercari, but it has no monthly plan, no per-order fee and no payment processing charge. Run the same item through each calculator to compare:
| Marketplace | Headline seller fee | Calculator |
|---|---|---|
| Walmart | 6%–15% referral, no monthly fee | You are here |
| Amazon | Referral, mostly 15%, plus a selling plan fee | Amazon fee calculator |
| eBay | 13.6% + per-order fee (most categories) | eBay fee calculator |
| Mercari | 10% of item + shipping | Mercari fee calculator |
| Poshmark | $2.95 under $15, 20% from $15 | Poshmark fee calculator |
| Etsy | $0.20 listing + 6.5% + processing | Etsy fee calculator |
| Depop (US) | No selling fee, payment processing only | Depop fee calculator |
| Whatnot | Commission + 2.9% + $0.30 processing | Whatnot fee calculator |
| Shopify | Monthly plan + card processing | Shopify fee calculator |
Fees are only part of the picture. Walmart is built for new, branded products with UPCs and steady stock, and sellers need an approved account. Used, vintage and one-off items tend to sell better on resale marketplaces, which is why many sellers run Walmart alongside other channels rather than instead of them.
Selling on Walmart outside the US
The fees on this page are for Walmart Marketplace in the United States, in US dollars. Walmart Canada and Walmart Mexico run their own marketplaces with separate seller accounts, category lists, fulfillment programs and fees in local currency, so the US rates here do not apply to them. Walmart does not run a marketplace in the UK. If you sell from Canada or the UK, our eBay and Etsy calculators cover those markets.
Tips to keep more of each Walmart sale
- Pick the right category. The category sets your rate, and a product in the wrong one can pay 15% instead of 8%.
- Price below the cliffs. In apparel, baby, beauty and grocery, a price just under the threshold can pay you more than one just above it.
- Fold shipping into the price. The referral fee is charged on shipping too, so free shipping costs nothing extra in fees and looks better to buyers.
- Shrink the box for WFS. Dimensional weight often decides the fee; tighter packaging can drop a full weight tier.
- Watch aged stock. Send WFS only what will sell within a few months, and avoid long stays through the October to December peak.
- Bundle cheap items. Multipacks priced at $10 or more skip the WFS surcharge and share one fulfillment fee.
- Track ads per sale. Sponsored Products can quietly double your cost per order; enter your ad spend per sale to see the real margin.
FAQ
Walmart fees: frequently asked questions (2026)
How much does Walmart take from each sale?
Walmart Marketplace charges a referral fee of 6% to 15% in most categories, and 15% in the majority of them. Jewelry is 20% on the first $250. There is no listing fee and no monthly fee. On a $50 home item with free shipping, the fee is $7.50.
Does Walmart charge a monthly fee to sell?
No. There is no setup fee, subscription or listing fee on Walmart Marketplace. You only pay the referral fee when an item sells, plus Walmart Fulfillment Services fees and advertising if you choose to use them.
Does Walmart charge its referral fee on shipping?
Yes. Walmart takes its percentage from everything the buyer pays you for the order (price, shipping, gift wrap and similar charges), not just the item. In a 15% category, a $50 item with $6.99 shipping pays $8.55 rather than $7.50.
Is the Walmart referral fee charged on sales tax?
No. Walmart is the marketplace facilitator: it collects sales tax from the buyer and pays it to the state. Tax is excluded from the referral fee base and never reaches your payout.
What is the Walmart referral fee for clothing?
Apparel & Accessories is 5% when the total sales price is $15 or less, 10% above $15 up to $20, and 15% above $20. The rate applies to the whole sale, so a $20.00 sale pays $2.00 while a $20.01 sale pays $3.00.
What does Walmart charge for electronics?
Consumer electronics, cameras and video game consoles pay 8%, personal computers 6%. Electronics accessories pay 15% on the first $100 of the sale and 8% on the part above $100.
Is there a minimum referral fee on Walmart?
Walmart's published fee schedule has no minimum referral fee, so a cheap item pays only its percentage. Low-priced items sold through WFS do pay an extra $1 fulfillment fee when the price is under $10.
How much does Walmart Fulfillment Services cost per item?
The WFS fee starts at $3.45 for a shipping weight of 1 lb or less, $4.95 for 2 lb and $5.45 for 3 lb, then $5.75 plus $0.40 per pound from 4 lb. Shipping weight is the higher of actual and dimensional weight, plus 0.25 lb, rounded up. Apparel and hazmat add $0.50, items under $10 add $1.
How much is WFS storage?
Storage is $0.75 per cubic foot per month for most of the year. From October to December, stock stored more than 30 days pays $2.25. Inventory older than a year pays $2.25, rising to $7.50 per cubic foot per month after 450 days.
Is selling on Walmart cheaper than Amazon?
Referral rates are similar, mostly 15% on both, but Walmart has no monthly subscription and no per-item fee for small sellers, and no minimum referral fee. Fulfillment fees depend on size and weight, so run your product through both calculators.
How often does Walmart pay sellers?
Walmart settles marketplace sales on a regular cycle, roughly every two weeks, and deposits the balance after fees to your bank through your payment provider. Walmart does not charge a fee to pay you out.
Can I sell on Walmart from Canada or the UK?
This calculator covers Walmart Marketplace in the US. Walmart Canada and Walmart Mexico run separate marketplaces with their own sellers, categories and fees. Walmart does not operate a marketplace in the UK.
